Basics
Aspect ratio equals width divided by height. 16:9 stays 16:9 whether the pixels are 1280x720 or 3840x2160.
Common ratios
- 16:9 for landscape video and presentations
- 9:16 for vertical clips on TikTok, Shorts, and Reels
- 1:1 or 4:5 for square and portrait social posts
- 2.39:1 when you need a cinema scope look
How to get the missing side
Open the ratio calculator. Enter the width or height you know, pick a preset, and press Calculate.
Example: enter 3840 for width, choose 9:16, and the tool shows 2160 for height.
